Account and identity
- Sign in with Apple or Google through Firebase Authentication. We receive identifiers those providers share (typically name and email, based on the permissions you grant) and a Firebase user ID.
- We do not receive your Apple or Google password.
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
If you type a VIN or scan it with the camera, we store it on your vehicle profile and may send it to:
- NHTSA vPIC to decode year / make / model and related specs
- NHTSA recall APIs to look up open recalls
- Anthropic (through our backend) when you use Pro AI features, as part of the vehicle context
VIN is optional. You can add a vehicle with year, make, and model instead.
Camera and photos
- Camera is used to scan a VIN barcode or VIN text. Camera access is optional; you can type the VIN or enter vehicle details manually.
- Photos you choose may include a vehicle cover photo stored on-device and in Firebase Storage (
users/{your user id}/vehicles/{vehicle id}/photos/…). - Older accounts may still have tire photos and tread-life estimates from a prior in-app check. That analysis flow is no longer offered. Any remaining tire photos are stored the same way until you remove the vehicle or delete your account.
We do not use your camera or photo library for advertising.
Maintenance and garage content you provide
- Vehicle profile details (year, make, model, trim, mileage, driving usage, notes)
- Maintenance tasks, checklist completions, service history, and related notes
- Component-life information you log (for example oil, tires, battery dates or mileage)
- In-app notification history related to reminders
Push notification tokens
If you enable maintenance reminders, we collect:
- The Apple Push Notification service (APNs) device token
- A Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) registration token
We store tokens with your account so our Cloud Functions can deliver lock-screen reminders. You can disable reminders in the App and in iOS Settings.
Motor Log Pro / payments
If you start a trial or purchase Motor Log Pro, we receive subscription and entitlement metadata needed to unlock Pro (plan, vehicle caps, product identifiers, expiration / renewal status, and billing identifiers).
Payment card numbers are processed by Apple (in-app StoreKit purchases) and, for optional web checkout, by RevenueCat Web Billing. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
AI feature inputs (Pro)
When you use AI-assisted features (vehicle research when adding a car, DIY insights, owner/community insights, overview insights), we send the relevant vehicle and task context — which may include VIN, year/make/model, mileage, and the maintenance item you asked about — to Anthropic through our Firebase Cloud Functions. We do not embed third-party AI API keys in the App. AI features require an active Pro subscription.
Technical and usage data
- Standard app and device diagnostics needed to operate Firebase Auth, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Messaging, and Cloud Functions
- Paywall presentation and purchase analytics from RevenueCat as needed to operate subscriptions (when RevenueCat is configured)
- On-device preferences stored in iOS UserDefaults (for example reminder and display settings)
- On the Site: typical web logs such as IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and similar hosting analytics
Website contact form
If you submit the contact form on the Site, we collect the name, email address, topic, and message you provide so we can respond. We also apply rate limits that use your IP address to prevent abuse.
